← Chapter 9: The Yoga of Royal Knowledge and Royal Secret

Verse 9.33

Speaker: Krishna

Sanskrit

किं पुनर्ब्राह्मणाः पुण्या भक्ता राजर्षयस्तथा | अनित्यमसुखं लोकमिमं प्राप्य भजस्व माम् ||३३||

Transliteration (IAST)

kiṁ punar brāhmaṇāḥ puṇyā bhaktā rājarṣayas tathā anityam asukhaṁ lokam imaṁ prāpya bhajasva mām

Word-by-Word Meanings

kim punaḥ-how much more
brāhmaṇāḥ-brahmins
puṇyāḥ-pious
rājarṣayaḥ-saintly kings
anityam-temporary
asukham-joyless
lokam-world
bhajasva-worship

Translation

How much more then the pious brahmins and devoted royal sages! Having come to this temporary and joyless world, worship Me.

Commentary

If even those of humble origin attain the Supreme through devotion, how much more so the spiritually privileged? Krishna then pivots to a direct imperative: 'bhajasva mām' - worship Me. The description of the world as 'anityam asukham' (temporary and joyless) provides the urgency for this command.
