The Yoga of Knowledge - Chapter 2, Verse 39

Sanskrit

एषा तेऽभिहिता साङ्ख्ये बुद्धिर्योगे त्विमां शृणु। बुद्ध्या युक्तो यया पार्थ कर्मबन्धं प्रहास्यसि॥

Transliteration

eṣā te 'bhihitā sāṅkhye buddhir yoge tv imāṁ śṛṇu buddhyā yukto yayā pārtha karma-bandhaṁ prahāsyasi

Translation

This wisdom has been taught to you from the standpoint of Sankhya. Now hear it from the standpoint of Yoga, endowed with which understanding, O Partha, you shall cast off the bondage of action.

Commentary

Krishna explicitly marks the transition from theoretical knowledge (Sankhya) to practical application (Yoga). The Gita's genius is in uniting these two approaches: knowledge of the Self's nature (Sankhya) combined with the discipline of selfless action (Yoga) leads to liberation from karmic bondage.
