Verse 5.26
Speaker: Krishna
Sanskrit
कामक्रोधवियुक्तानां यतीनां यतचेतसाम्। अभितो ब्रह्मनिर्वाणं वर्तते विदितात्मनाम्।।
Transliteration (IAST)
kāma-krodha-viyuktānāṁ yatīnāṁ yata-cetasām। abhito brahma-nirvāṇaṁ vartate viditātmanām।।
Word-by-Word Meanings
कामक्रोधवियुक्तानाम्-free from desire and anger
यतीनाम्-of the ascetics
यतचेतसाम्-whose minds are controlled
अभितः-on all sides/always
ब्रह्मनिर्वाणम्-liberation in Brahman
विदितात्मनाम्-who have realized the Self
Translation
For those ascetics who are free from desire and anger, whose minds are controlled, and who have realized the Self - liberation in Brahman exists everywhere, at all times.
Commentary
For the Self-realized sage, brahma-nirvāṇa is not a distant goal but an ever-present reality. The word 'abhitaḥ' (on all sides) indicates that liberation surrounds such a person at all times - it is not limited to after death. This is the state of jīvanmukti, liberation while living.
