Verse 2.72

Speaker: Krishna

Sanskrit

एषा ब्राह्मी स्थितिः पार्थ नैनां प्राप्य विमुह्यति। स्थित्वास्यामन्तकालेऽपि ब्रह्मनिर्वाणमृच्छति॥

Transliteration (IAST)

eṣā brāhmī sthitiḥ pārtha naināṁ prāpya vimuhyati sthitvāsyām anta-kāle 'pi brahma-nirvāṇam ṛcchati

Word-by-Word Meanings

brāhmī sthitiḥ-state of Brahman/divine state
na vimuhyati-is not deluded
anta-kāle-at the time of death
brahma-nirvāṇam-liberation in Brahman
ṛcchati-attains

Translation

This is the state of Brahman, O Partha. Having attained it, one is never deluded. Being established in this state even at the hour of death, one attains liberation in Brahman.

Commentary

The chapter concludes with the ultimate promise: the state described (sthitaprajña) is the 'brāhmī sthiti' - the divine state of Brahman-realization. Once attained, delusion never returns. Even if one attains this state only at the moment of death, liberation is assured. This verse provides both the goal and the assurance that the path described in this chapter leads to the highest attainment.
