Verse 5.19

Speaker: Krishna

Sanskrit

इहैव तैर्जितः सर्गो येषां साम्ये स्थितं मनः। निर्दोषं हि समं ब्रह्म तस्माद्ब्रह्मणि ते स्थिताः।।

Transliteration (IAST)

ihaiva tair jitaḥ sargo yeṣāṁ sāmye sthitaṁ manaḥ। nirdoṣaṁ hi samaṁ brahma tasmād brahmaṇi te sthitāḥ।।

Word-by-Word Meanings

इह एव-here itself
जितः-conquered
सर्गः-creation/birth
साम्ये-in equanimity
निर्दोषम्-flawless
ब्रह्म-Brahman

Translation

Even here in this world, birth is conquered by those whose mind rests in equanimity. Brahman is flawless and equal; therefore they are established in Brahman.

Commentary

Those who have attained equal vision have already transcended the cycle of birth and death while still living. Since Brahman is impartial and without defect, a mind established in equanimity reflects the nature of Brahman itself. This is jīvanmukti - liberation while embodied.
