Word-by-Word Meanings
न प्रहृष्येत्-should not rejoice
प्रियम्-pleasant
न उद्विजेत्-should not be disturbed
अप्रियम्-unpleasant
स्थिरबुद्धिः-steady intellect
ब्रह्मवित्-knower of Brahman
Translation
One should not rejoice upon obtaining what is pleasant, nor be disturbed upon obtaining what is unpleasant. With steady intellect, undeluded, the knower of Brahman is established in Brahman.
Commentary
The Brahman-knower maintains equanimity in all circumstances. Neither elation at pleasant experiences nor distress at unpleasant ones disturbs the steady wisdom of one established in the Self. This emotional equilibrium is both a sign and a result of Self-realization.
