jñāna-tapasā-by the fire of knowledge

Translation

Being freed from attachment, fear, and anger, being fully absorbed in Me and taking refuge in Me, many persons in the past became purified by knowledge of Me and thus attained transcendental love for Me.

Commentary

Krishna describes the path of those who have already attained liberation. Freedom from rāga (attachment), bhaya (fear), and krodha (anger) are prerequisites. The term 'jñāna-tapasā' presents knowledge itself as an austerity that purifies the seeker.
