Commentary

Arjuna's response marks the complete transformation from the despairing warrior of Chapter 1 to the resolved devotee. Shankaracharya notes that 'smṛtir labdhā' (wisdom gained) indicates the dawn of Self-knowledge. Ramanuja emphasizes 'tvat-prasādāt' (by Your grace) - Arjuna attributes his transformation not to his own effort but to divine grace. The words 'kariṣye vacanam tava' (I shall do Your bidding) represent perfect surrender.
