सर्वभूतानि-all beings
सम्मोहम्-into delusion
सर्गे-at birth/creation
Translation
By the delusion of the pairs of opposites arising from desire and aversion, O Bharata, all beings fall into delusion at birth, O scorcher of foes.
Commentary
The mechanism of universal delusion is explained: the pairs of opposites (pleasure-pain, gain-loss) create attraction and repulsion, which veil true knowledge from the moment of birth. Shankaracharya explains that this dvandva-moha is beginningless and perpetuates the cycle of samsara.
