Verse 6.7
Speaker: Krishna
Sanskrit
जितात्मनः प्रशान्तस्य परमात्मा समाहितः। शीतोष्णसुखदुःखेषु तथा मानापमानयोः॥
Transliteration (IAST)
jitātmanaḥ praśāntasya paramātmā samāhitaḥ śītoṣṇa-sukha-duḥkheṣu tathā mānāpamānayoḥ
Word-by-Word Meanings
jita-ātmanaḥ-of one who has conquered the mind
praśāntasya-of the peaceful
paramātmā-the Supreme Self
samāhitaḥ-is reached/balanced
śīta-uṣṇa-cold and heat
māna-apamānayoḥ-honor and dishonor
Translation
For one who has conquered the mind, the Supreme Self is already reached, being equipoised in cold and heat, happiness and distress, honor and dishonor.
Commentary
The conquered mind naturally rests in the Paramātmā. Krishna lists pairs of opposites - physical (cold/heat), emotional (pleasure/pain), and social (honor/dishonor) - showing that equanimity across all dimensions is the sign of self-mastery.
