यं हि न व्यथयन्त्येते पुरुषं पुरुषर्षभ। समदुःखसुखं धीरं सोऽमृतत्वाय कल्पते॥

yaṁ hi na vyathayanty ete puruṣaṁ puruṣarṣabha sama-duḥkha-sukhaṁ dhīraṁ so 'mṛtatvāya kalpate

Translation
That person whom these do not disturb, O best among men, who is equal in pleasure and pain and is steady - that one is fit for immortality.
Commentary
Equanimity in the face of dualities is presented as the qualification for liberation. The word 'amṛtatva' (immortality) here refers not to physical immortality but to the realization of one's eternal nature. This verse connects the Sankhya analysis of the Self to the practical goal of liberation.
