atha vā yoginām eva kule bhavati dhīmatām etad dhi durlabhataraṁ loke janma yad īdṛśam

Word-by-Word Meanings

atha vā-or
yoginām-of yogis
kule-in the family
dhīmatām-of the wise
durlabhataram-very rare
loke-in this world
janma-birth

Translation

Or, the unsuccessful yogi takes birth in a family of wise yogis. Such a birth is very rare in this world.

Commentary

The second, rarer outcome: birth directly into a family of realized yogis. This is considered superior because the spiritual environment accelerates progress. Krishna calls this durlabhatara (extremely rare), indicating the special grace involved in such placement.
