श्रीभगवानुवाच | परं भूयः प्रवक्ष्यामि ज्ञानानां ज्ञानमुत्तमम् | यज्ज्ञात्वा मुनयः सर्वे परां सिद्धिमितो गताः ||१||

Transliteration (IAST)

śrī bhagavān uvāca | paraṁ bhūyaḥ pravakṣyāmi jñānānāṁ jñānam uttamam | yaj jñātvā munayaḥ sarve parāṁ siddhim ito gatāḥ ||1||

Translation

The Supreme Lord said: I shall again declare that supreme knowledge, the best of all knowledge, having known which all the sages have attained supreme perfection from this world.

Commentary

Krishna introduces Chapter 14 by promising to reveal the highest knowledge. Shankaracharya notes that this knowledge concerns the three gunas and their transcendence, which leads to liberation. Ramanuja explains that this knowledge is called supreme because it reveals how the soul becomes bound by the gunas and how it can be freed.
