Verse 11.41

Speaker: Arjuna

Sanskrit

सखेति मत्वा प्रसभं यदुक्तं हे कृष्ण हे यादव हे सखेति | अजानता महिमानं तवेदं मया प्रमादात्प्रणयेन वापि ||४१||

Transliteration (IAST)

sakheti matvā prasabhaṁ yad uktaṁ he kṛṣṇa he yādava he sakheti | ajānatā mahimānaṁ tavedaṁ mayā pramādāt praṇayena vāpi ||41||

Word-by-Word Meanings

sakhā iti-as a friend
matvā-thinking
prasabham-presumptuously
yat uktam-whatever was said
he kṛṣṇa-O Krishna
he yādava-O Yadava
ajānatā-not knowing
mahimānam-greatness
pramādāt-out of negligence
praṇayena-out of love

Translation

Thinking of You as a friend, I have presumptuously addressed You as 'O Krishna,' 'O Yadava,' 'O friend' - not knowing this greatness of Yours, through negligence or through love.

Commentary

Arjuna now feels remorse for his casual treatment of Krishna as a mere friend. This deeply human moment reveals the tension between personal devotion and cosmic awe. Shankaracharya notes that 'praṇayena' (through love) partially excuses the familiarity, as love transcends formal protocol.
