अनन्तश्चास्मि नागानां वरुणो यादसामहम् | पितृणामर्यमा चास्मि यमः संयमतामहम् ||२९||

Transliteration (IAST)

anantas casmi naganam varuno yadasam aham | pitrnam aryama casmi yamah samyamatam aham ||29||

Translation

Among the Nagas I am Ananta; among aquatic beings I am Varuna; among the ancestors I am Aryama; and among controllers I am Yama.

Commentary

Ananta (Shesha) is the infinite serpent upon whom Vishnu reclines, representing eternity itself. Varuna presides over the cosmic waters and moral order. Aryama governs the realm of ancestors. Yama as the lord of death and dharma represents the ultimate controller. Shankaracharya notes that Yama embodies impartial cosmic justice.
