Transliteration (IAST)

prahladas casmi daityanam kalah kalayatam aham | mrganam ca mrgendro 'ham vainateyas ca paksinam ||30||

Word-by-Word Meanings

prahladah-Prahlada
daityanam-of the Daityas (demons)
kalah-time
kalayatam-of measurers
mrgendrah-the lion
mrganam-of beasts
vainateyah-Garuda (son of Vinata)
paksinam-of birds

Translation

Among the Daityas I am Prahlada; among measurers I am time; among beasts I am the lion; and among birds I am Garuda.

Commentary

Prahlada, though born among demons, exemplifies supreme devotion - showing that bhakti transcends birth. Time (kala) as the ultimate measurer is irresistible and all-consuming. The lion represents fearless sovereignty, and Garuda, Vishnu's mount, represents speed and devotion combined. Ramanuja emphasizes that Prahlada's inclusion demonstrates that divine manifestation is based on quality, not lineage.
