Verse 10.19
Speaker: Krishna
Sanskrit
श्रीभगवानुवाच | हन्त ते कथयिष्यामि दिव्या ह्यात्मविभूतयः | प्राधान्यतः कुरुश्रेष्ठ नास्त्यन्तो विस्तरस्य मे ||१९||
Transliteration (IAST)
śrī bhagavān uvāca | hanta te kathayiṣyāmi divyā hy ātma-vibhūtayaḥ | prādhānyataḥ kuru-śreṣṭha nāsty anto vistarasya me ||19||
Word-by-Word Meanings
hanta-yes
kathayiṣyāmi-I shall describe
divyāḥ-divine
ātma-vibhūtayaḥ-My own glories
prādhānyataḥ-principally
antaḥ-end
vistarasya-of the extent
Translation
The Supreme Lord said: Yes, I shall describe to you My divine glories, but only the principal ones, O best of the Kurus, for there is no end to My extent.
Commentary
Krishna agrees to Arjuna's request but immediately qualifies it - He will share only the 'prādhānyataḥ' (principal) manifestations because His glories are infinite. This sets the proper expectation: what follows is representative, not exhaustive. The infinite cannot be fully catalogued in finite speech.
