Translation
Sanjaya said: Having spoken thus on the battlefield, Arjuna cast aside his bow and arrows and sat down on the seat of his chariot, his mind overwhelmed with grief.
Commentary
This penultimate verse shows Arjuna's complete collapse. Casting aside his bow - the symbol of his warrior identity - he sits down in the middle of a battlefield. This image of the greatest warrior paralyzed by grief creates the dramatic necessity for Krishna's teaching that follows in Chapter 2.
