Verse 9.8

Speaker: Krishna

Sanskrit

प्रकृतिं स्वामवष्टभ्य विसृजामि पुनः पुनः | भूतग्राममिमं कृत्स्नमवशं प्रकृतेर्वशात् ||८||

Transliteration (IAST)

prakṛtiṁ svām avaṣṭabhya visṛjāmi punaḥ punaḥ bhūta-grāmam imaṁ kṛtsnam avaśaṁ prakṛter vaśāt

Word-by-Word Meanings

prakṛtim-material nature
svām-My own
avaṣṭabhya-taking control of
visṛjāmi-I create
punaḥ punaḥ-again and again
bhūta-grāmam-multitude of beings
avaśam-helpless

Translation

Taking control of My own material nature, I create again and again this entire multitude of beings, who are helpless under the sway of prakṛti.

Commentary

The repeated creation (punaḥ punaḥ) emphasizes the cyclical nature of cosmic manifestation. Beings are described as 'avaśam' - helpless under prakṛti's influence - highlighting the need for divine grace to transcend this cycle. Only through devotion can one escape this automatic process.
