Verse 9.10

Speaker: Krishna

Sanskrit

मयाध्यक्षेण प्रकृतिः सूयते सचराचरम् | हेतुनानेन कौन्तेय जगद्विपरिवर्तते ||१०||

Transliteration (IAST)

mayādhyakṣeṇa prakṛtiḥ sūyate sa-carācaram hetunānena kaunteya jagad viparivartate

Word-by-Word Meanings

mayā-by Me
adhyakṣeṇa-under supervision
prakṛtiḥ-material nature
sūyate-produces
sa-cara-acaram-moving and non-moving
jagat-world
viparivartate-revolves

Translation

Under My supervision, material nature produces all moving and non-moving beings. By this cause, O son of Kunti, the world revolves.

Commentary

Krishna clarifies His role as the efficient cause while prakṛti serves as the material cause. He is the 'adhyakṣa' - the overseer or superintendent - whose mere glance sets creation in motion. This resolves the apparent contradiction between divine detachment (9.9) and divine causation.
