पुण्यो गन्धः पृथिव्यां च तेजश्चास्मि विभावसौ | जीवनं सर्वभूतेषु तपश्चास्मि तपस्विषु ||९||

puṇyo gandhaḥ pṛthivyāṁ ca tejaścāsmi vibhāvasau | jīvanaṁ sarvabhūteṣu tapaścāsmi tapasviṣu ||9||

Translation

I am the pure fragrance of the earth, the brilliance in fire, the life in all beings, and the austerity of ascetics.

Commentary

Continuing the enumeration of divine presence, Krishna identifies Himself with the purest essence of each element and quality. The word 'punya' (pure/sacred) qualifies the fragrance, indicating that God manifests as the noble and elevating aspect of creation.
