Translation

Some yogis perfectly worship the demigods by offering different sacrifices into the fire, and some offer the self as sacrifice in the fire of Brahman.

Commentary

Krishna begins enumerating various forms of sacrifice (yajña). The first type is ritual worship of devas; the second is the offering of the individual self into the universal Self. This cataloging shows that sacrifice is not limited to ritual but encompasses all forms of spiritual discipline.
