क्लैब्यं मा स्म गमः पार्थ नैतत्त्वय्युपपद्यते। क्षुद्रं हृदयदौर्बल्यं त्यक्त्वोत्तिष्ठ परन्तप॥
Transliteration (IAST)
klaibyaṁ mā sma gamaḥ pārtha naitat tvayy upapadyate kṣudraṁ hṛdaya-daurbalyaṁ tyaktvottiṣṭha parantapa
Word-by-Word Meanings
klaibyam-unmanliness/weakness
pārtha-son of Pritha (Arjuna)
kṣudram-petty
hṛdaya-daurbalyam-weakness of heart
parantapa-scorcher of foes
Translation
Do not yield to unmanliness, O Partha. It does not befit you. Cast off this petty weakness of heart and arise, O scorcher of foes.
Commentary
Krishna uses the epithet 'Parantapa' (scorcher of foes) to remind Arjuna of his true nature as a warrior. The instruction to 'arise' (uttiṣṭha) becomes a recurring theme - spiritual awakening requires action, not withdrawal.
