द्रोणं च भीष्मं च जयद्रथं च कर्णं तथान्यानपि योधवीरान् | मया हतांस्त्वं जहि मा व्यथिष्ठा युध्यस्व जेतासि रणे सपत्नान् ||३४||

droṇaṁ ca bhīṣmaṁ ca jayadrathaṁ ca karṇaṁ tathānyān api yodha-vīrān | mayā hatāṁs tvaṁ jahi mā vyathiṣṭhā yudhyasva jetāsi raṇe sapatnān ||34||

Translation

Drona, Bhishma, Jayadratha, Karna, and other brave warriors have already been slain by Me. Slay them - do not be distressed. Fight, and you shall conquer your enemies in battle.

Commentary

Krishna names specific warriors to assure Arjuna of victory. These are precisely the warriors Arjuna feared fighting in Chapter 1. Ramanuja notes that 'mayā hatān' (already slain by Me) reveals the divine will operating behind the apparent flow of events. The command 'mā vyathiṣṭhāḥ' directly addresses Arjuna's grief from Chapter 1.
