प्रलपन्विसृजन्गृह्णन्नुन्मिषन्निमिषन्नपि। इन्द्रियाणीन्द्रियार्थेषु वर्तन्त इति धारयन्।।

pralapan visṛjan gṛhṇann unmiṣan nimiṣann api। indriyāṇīndriyārtheṣu vartanta iti dhārayan।।

Translation

Speaking, releasing, grasping, opening and closing the eyes - the yogi holds firm that it is merely the senses engaging with their objects.

Commentary

Continuing from 5.8, this verse completes the description of the wise person's understanding. All bodily functions are recognized as mechanical interactions between senses and objects. The Self, being pure consciousness, is not the doer. This understanding is the essence of karma sannyāsa.
