Translation
That splendor residing in the sun which illuminates the entire world, that which is in the moon and in fire - know that radiance to be Mine.
Commentary
Shankaracharya explains that all luminosity in the universe is a manifestation of the Lord's power. The sun, moon, and fire represent the three primary sources of light in Vedic cosmology. Ramanuja sees this as establishing God's immanence - His energy pervades all luminous bodies. This verse transitions from the discussion of the jiva to Krishna's cosmic presence, preparing for the Vibhuti-like declarations that follow.
