Word-by-Word Meanings
Translation
I am delighted having seen what was never seen before, yet my mind is disturbed with fear. Show me that same familiar form, O God. Be gracious, O Lord of gods, O refuge of the universe.
Commentary
Arjuna experiences simultaneous joy and terror - delighted at the unprecedented vision yet overwhelmed by its fearsome aspect. He requests Krishna's familiar four-armed or two-armed form. Ramanuja notes that this is not a rejection of the cosmic form but an acknowledgment of human limitation in sustaining such vision.
