Word-by-Word Meanings
maharṣīṇām-of great sages
bhṛguḥ-Bhrigu
girām-of utterances
ekam akṣaram-the single syllable (Om)
japa-yajñaḥ-chanting sacrifice
sthāvarāṇām-of immovable things
himālayaḥ-the Himalayas
Translation
Of the great sages I am Bhrigu; of utterances I am the single syllable Om; of sacrifices I am the sacrifice of chanting; and of immovable things I am the Himalayas.
Commentary
Om as the essence of all speech, japa as the most accessible form of sacrifice, and the Himalayas as the greatest of mountains - these vibhūtis span the spiritual and physical realms. The identification with japa-yajña is particularly significant as it democratizes worship: anyone can chant.
