Verse 1.25

Speaker: Sanjaya

Sanskrit

भीष्मद्रोणप्रमुखतः सर्वेषां च महीक्षिताम् | उवाच पार्थ पश्यैतान्समवेतान्कुरूनिति ||२५||

Transliteration (IAST)

bhīṣmadroṇapramukhataḥ sarveṣāṁ ca mahīkṣitām | uvāca pārtha paśyaitānsamavetānkurūniti ||25||

Word-by-Word Meanings

भीष्मद्रोणप्रमुखतः-in front of Bhishma and Drona
महीक्षिताम्-of the rulers of the earth
पार्थ-O son of Pritha (Arjuna)
पश्य-behold
समवेतान्-assembled
कुरून्-the Kurus

Translation

In the presence of Bhishma, Drona, and all the rulers of the earth, Krishna said: O Partha, behold these Kurus assembled here.

Commentary

Krishna's words 'paśya etān kurūn' (behold these Kurus) are deliberately provocative. By calling them 'Kurus' - Arjuna's own clan - Krishna forces Arjuna to confront the reality that he must fight his own family. This triggers the emotional crisis that follows.
