Verse 6.33

Speaker: Arjuna

Sanskrit

योऽयं योगस्त्वया प्रोक्तः साम्येन मधुसूदन। एतस्याहं न पश्यामि चञ्चलत्वात्स्थितिं स्थिराम्॥

Transliteration (IAST)

yo 'yaṁ yogas tvayā proktaḥ sāmyena madhusūdana etasyāhaṁ na paśyāmi cañcalatvāt sthitiṁ sthirām

Word-by-Word Meanings

yaḥ ayam yogaḥ-this yoga which
tvayā proktaḥ-described by You
sāmyena-by equanimity
na paśyāmi-I do not see
cañcalatvāt-due to restlessness
sthitim sthirām-steady position

Translation

O Madhusudana, this yoga of equanimity which You have described - I do not see how it can endure steadily, because of the restlessness of the mind.

Commentary

Arjuna voices the universal human doubt about meditation. Despite understanding the theory, he honestly admits he cannot see how equanimity can be maintained given the mind's inherent restlessness. This sets up one of the Gita's most practical exchanges on spiritual practice.
