Verse 2.44
Speaker: Krishna
Sanskrit
भोगैश्वर्यप्रसक्तानां तयापहृतचेतसाम्। व्यवसायात्मिका बुद्धिः समाधौ न विधीयते॥
Transliteration (IAST)
bhogaiśvarya-prasaktānāṁ tayāpahṛta-cetasām vyavasāyātmikā buddhiḥ samādhau na vidhīyate
Word-by-Word Meanings
bhoga-aiśvarya-enjoyment and power
prasaktānām-of those attached
apahṛta-cetasām-whose minds are stolen
samādhau-in deep meditation
na vidhīyate-is not established
Translation
For those who are deeply attached to pleasure and power, whose minds are carried away by such talk, the resolute determination for meditation does not arise.
Commentary
Attachment to sensory pleasures and worldly power prevents the mind from achieving the single-pointed focus needed for samadhi. This verse explains why material success and spiritual realization are often at odds - not because wealth is inherently evil, but because attachment to it scatters the mind.
