Verse 2.42

Speaker: Krishna

Sanskrit

यामिमां पुष्पितां वाचं प्रवदन्त्यविपश्चितः। वेदवादरताः पार्थ नान्यदस्तीति वादिनः॥

Transliteration (IAST)

yām imāṁ puṣpitāṁ vācaṁ pravadanty avipaścitaḥ veda-vāda-ratāḥ pārtha nānyad astīti vādinaḥ

Word-by-Word Meanings

puṣpitām-flowery
vācam-words/speech
avipaścitaḥ-the undiscerning
veda-vāda-ratāḥ-attached to Vedic rituals
na anyat-nothing else

Translation

The undiscerning ones who delight in the flowery words of the Vedas, O Partha, say that there is nothing else.

Commentary

Krishna critiques those who are attached to the ritualistic portions of the Vedas without understanding their deeper spiritual purpose. This is not a rejection of the Vedas but of a superficial, materialistic interpretation that sees only the promise of heavenly rewards.
