यदृच्छया चोपपन्नं स्वर्गद्वारमपावृतम्। सुखिनः क्षत्रियाः पार्थ लभन्ते युद्धमीदृशम्॥

yadṛcchayā copapannaṁ svarga-dvāram apāvṛtam sukhinaḥ kṣatriyāḥ pārtha labhante yuddham īdṛśam

Translation

Happy are the warriors, O Partha, who find such a war coming unsought to them, opening the gates of heaven.

Commentary

Krishna presents the traditional warrior ethic: a righteous war is a rare opportunity for a kshatriya to fulfill his dharma and earn spiritual merit. This argument appeals to Arjuna's identity as a warrior and the cultural values of his class.
